A town located on the north coast of Tenerife it is 19 to 20 km E off Puerto dela Cruz, about 20 km SSW of the island's capital, NE of Los Cristianos and Las Américas of Arona.
A population numbering 8,267 as of 2003 and a population density of 451.50/km² El Sauzal occupies an area of 18.31 km² and an elevation of 300 m. It is linked with the TF2 superhighway and the old highway linking Icod de los Vinos and the capital.
Farmlands are situated in the valley areas and within the Atlantic. Urban areas cover much the land while the mountains and hills are situated on the southeast. Its climate makes the area ideal for vegetation.
Though much of the area consists of farmlands most of it became urbanized and the population moved from a rural to an urban setting. Thus the economy is mostly driven by tourism and some businesses with a sprinkling of agriculture.
El Sauzal has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, churches, a post office and a few squares called plazas.
