The first part translates in Spanish as St. Michael; it is the name of a municipality, town, and valley in the southeastern part of Tenerife.
San Miguel de Abona is a suburb or a cluster of Tenerife Sur located in the southern end of the island. Arico is on a valley setting with an estimated population of 9,988.
San Miguel de Abona is linked with the superhighway and has an interchange south of San Miguel de Abona and north of its beaches. It is also linked with the old highway linking Arona and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Its economy consisted of various businesses, tourism and some agriculture. The urban area and some farmlands dominate the coastline and valley areas, while the mountains occupy much of the municipality and to the north. The international airport is in the eastern portion of the municipality.
