This municipality whose name means “Village of Flowers” in Spanish, is in the southcentral part of the island and located about 90 km SW of the island's capital, E of Adeje and 25 km NW of the international airport.
With a population of 1,798 as per 2003 survey, its population density stands at 151/km² and total land area at 33.92 km². Vilaflor is linked north of the superhighway and connected from Playa de las Américas and Arona.
The farmlands are situated in the valley areas with Mt. Teide, the Canary Islands' tallest mountain lying to the northeast. Grasslands cover the south and the valley areas while forests cover Teide within the northcentral part. The area also features Paisaje Lunar and the mineral springs of Pinalito and Fuente Alta.
Agriculture drives their economy with tourism lower in the coastlines and more visible in the Teide area. The urban area and some farmlands occupy much of the valley.
