La Casa Iriarte was the home of the Iriarte family, a prominent member of which was the renowned writer of fables, Tomas de Iriarte y Nieves-Ravelo (1750-1791). The house is an excellent example of 18 th century Canarian architecture. The house's ground floor shelters a lace museum, while a naval museum can be found upstairs. The naval museum contains interesting naval artifacts, scale-model ships, and much historical information.
In the hills on the outskirts of town, one can find the Jardin Botanico ( Botanical Garden ). Definitely a world-class botanical garden, it was first built in 1788.
