Popular Traditions

People in the Costa del Silencio observe a variety of holidays and festivals each year. Being predominantly Catholic, the locals can be extra devout in their observance.

The major celebration of Costa del Silencio is the Carnaval, which takes place every year in February. This is a week-long celebration that draws hundreds, even thousands, of visitors each year. During Carnaval week, people dress in a bewildering array of costumes, all ranging from the casual to the classy to the crazy. Wherever one is in Costa del Silencio, the party is sure to be nearby!

After the gaiety of the Carnaval, the mood quickly turns somber as the Lenten season sets in. During the weeks leading up to, and including, the Holy Week, locals and Catholics perform various religious acts. The Holy Week culminates in Good Friday and Easter Sunday. These are two of the most important Catholic holidays.
