Shopping

The Canary Islands are a partly tax-free area. This means that prices on most items for sale are cheaper than elsewhere in the world. This presents a great opportunity for serious shoppers to load up on souvenirs and other miscellaneous items. With a little work, great deals can be found around every street corner.

Shoppers may want to load up on local crafts. The Canary Island natives are known for their excellent embroidery, thread, and lace work, which they craft painstakingly by hand. Pottery is also a popular souvenir item; Canarian pottery is made with very few tools; not even a potter's wheel is used! Finally, Canarian wickerwork is another favorite take-home item among visitors.

For these items and many more, there are two marketplaces in Tacoronte that shoppers should not fail to visit: the Mercado Municipal en La Estacion and the Mercadillo del Agricultor de San Juan.
