Puerto de la Cruz Shopping

The places in the Canary Islands are partly tax-free areas. This means that goods on sale are generally cheaper by a significant margin over goods purchased in other European cities, making Tenerife a shopper's paradise. However, some items, such as clothing and shoes, are expensive, costing the same elsewhere in Europe. For everything else other than clothes and shoes, great deals are always around. There is also a great variety of fancy, unique, and most importantly cheap items to be found in the road-side bazaars and open-air markets.

Liquor, tobacco, and perfumes are also very cheap here - much cheaper, in fact, than in other European countries. Great bargains abound for rare and unique spirits, tobacco, and perfumery. Finally, shoppers should not fail to buy Spanish delicacies such as Spanish coffee, goat's milk cheese, and the delicious jamon serrano.

In Puerto de la Cruz, the flea markets can be found clustered near the Lago Martianez area.

  • The town's only large shopping center is the Centro Comercial Martianez. Here, one will find a large supermarket and several small shops.
  • There is a smaller shopping center down at Calle Quintana, the Centro Columbus.

Cheap electronics are plentiful in Puerto de la Cruz . Everything from cellular phones to car stereos to home entertainment systems can be purchased for cheap. Shoppers, however, need to be careful when buying to avoid buying counterfeits.
